Wowie Zowie

Our friend the King raised a provocative question yesterday: stripped of his supporting cast and costumes, is David Bowie simply a better-dressed Billy Joel?

It's worth some thought.

like ¨Big Shot¨ at least has some real intestinal fortitude and spunk behind it.

yeah, but space oddity is a pretty interesting song. i don't know. i'm all for hating on billy joel (or anyone else y'all want to hate on) but i don't know that i see it. for one thing, when i hear billy joel it always takes me a second or two to realize it's not william crystal. that never happens with david bowie. though billy joel would look great as halloween jack:

i think my beef with a lot of bowie's stuff is that it just sounds so dead. like Starman...sounds like background music to me.

I'm no great Bowie fan, but James Brown liked him enough to plagiarize "Fame," whereas I can't imagine the Godfather of Soul would find a single thing to like about the Piano Man.

(Then again, one of them shtupped Christie Brinkley, while the other is reputed to have blown Mick Jagger... or does that count as supporting cast?)

And happy blog-warming! The new digs are cozy...
